How do you know what kind of food my dog needs?

We’ve developed a proprietary algorithm alongside our vets to determine the ideal meal plan for each dog. We start by asking the right questions and create a customized plan to fit your dog’s needs. After you start, our nutritional experts monitor your dog’s progress and adjust serving packs accordingly.

How are Dog Chef meals made?

Our board-certified veterinary nutritionists carefully formulate each recipe to be complete and balanced according to European standards, and we use all human-grade ingredients to do so. Each recipe is cooked in our human-grade kitchens in Brussels. Since we package your meals perfectly to your dog’s needs, your food never sits on a shelf for months at a time, and you don’t have to trust packaging that can fail and produce mold. Sometimes things just work out to be a win-win.

How much does this cost?

Each dog is different, and pricing will depend on a variety of factors including weight, activity, and more. Fill out our questionnaire to determine your costs! We don’t use any retail stores, so your dollars go more towards your dog’s ingredient quality, and not to all the middlemen.

Do I need to consult my vet to use Dog Chef?

Please do! They will take comfort in the fact that we work alongside board certified veterinary nutritionists, and while many vets fight over different food trends, just about every vet agrees that nutritionally balanced homemade food is great for dogs. If your dog does not normally need a prescription diet and is otherwise healthy, they’ll do great on our food with or without a consultation with your vet.

What ingredients do you use?

First and foremost, we use real food. All of our ingredients are human-grade and sourced from restaurant suppliers, local farms, or other human food purveyors. We never use feed grade ingredients and we don’t process our ingredients to be shelf-stable, getting the most natural nutrients available. Why can’t I just cook dog food at home?

You can! But recent research found 95% of recipes online to be lacking in crucial nutrients for dogs. Serious complications from nutrient deficiencies (and, more commonly, overdosing) could arise if a recipe hasn’t been properly calibrated.

How do shipments work?

With our meal plans, customers can pick up their order nearby or receive deliveries of freshly prepared food on a recurring basis. Meals are customized to fit your dog’s needs and come in convenient serving packs to make feeding easy. We perfectly time deliveries to make sure you never run out of food.
